Turn Up The Silence, 180x120cm
Conor
I started doing graffiti when I was 14. Later I went to art college and studied painting. This challenged all my previous beliefs and convictions. My world today is an amalgamation of both worlds:graffiti and fine art, aerosol and oils, abstraction and figuration, chaos and control. In contrast to the fast, disposable media employed by many of today’s street artists, I opt for the slower historic process of oil painting.

I paint the male figure. My subjects may appear as fighters, invaders and conquerers, but I am also interested in the emotional side of masculinity. This is a painting of a Roman solider, the original aggressor and superpower. I strayed from my usual muted palette to employ colours representing two of today’s imperial superpowers as they continue in their crusades on foreign soil. The carnival goes on. –Conor Harrington, Juxtapose 79
